this team is a goliath in our conference. very talented. on o and d they are very unconventional and aggressive. but a very successful program.

basically their defense is a punt block d. they line up everyone and "CHARGE!!!". the only people who don't go are the corners. last year, this was like a change up, but this year i got them doing this the majority of the time vs option teams. when they are not charging they are a 4/3 or 44...both hyper aggressive fronts as well.

so how would you approach this? i know they won't cover our slots, but we have to get the pass off. they try to intimidate and our kids will need to hold, but you would have to see this to believe it. against an undercenter option team they played this: SS wide and hard off the edge, backer between the wing, tilt de crossfacing the tackle, Backer shooting b, dt, slanting "A", B shooting other A, DT B, Backer C, SS flying off the edge, i mean all 9 just going. bodies racing everywhere.

they traditionally don't do well vs option, but last year we didn't light them up and our d played well enough to win, but we just couldn't move the ball with consistancy.

thanks

Joe,
I haven't seen anything like this but it sounds like you must make them honor formations and if they won't then you should have some "hot"or uncovered throws that are released like turning a double play at second base. Get rid of it ASAP.

Coach,

Set them up with the motions and run the 1/2 reverse or flat pass. Also consider a triple screen. If they are a fast in the middle team then outside screens will work well. I also like the jet series against a team that blitzes alot. Run the jet empty and then come back with the jet stretch pass. I played a team this week that blitzed the house and we took big advantage of them with with the double as well. I hope this helps and good luck coach.

thanks guys

we are actually got them this week. we played a team that didn't win a game for over 2 years, they were clearly young and over matched by all of their opponents, so did a double a prep this past week. this is a school we never beat so we took advantage of the extra time to prep...defensively.

after looking at them more closely, it is either a 4/3 with the safeties pressing our slots, or a 4/4 with the fs coming off their left side. but they definitely line'em up and charge. when we threw stetch last year, it was close to being there but my qb hurried it, and the olber from a 4/3 put his helmet in his back. the safeties, when up, jammed the crap out of our slots...so what do you think?

ok...even clearer

4/3 is still safeties up, pinch the ends in, olbers out, safeties racing to pitch or qb (they will exchange with the olbers)

4/4 is ever man up - 8 in the gaps, Fs will add on if in a balanced triple gun set.

Coach
1. If you go double tight verse both sets what happens to the OLB?
A: 7 tech then Rocket and no other play./ 9 tech then Base/Tide and no other play. This is a done by calling rocket with a Base check. QB sees open C gap calls Base, if he sees a closed C gap says nothing and stays with the play called in the huddle.

2. If you go Split end over what happens to the Safeties?
A: One safety rotates, but you have the FB to the nub of the defense, so run rocket to the nub side.
WHY?
5 tech is slanting in. No need to block him on rocket, so OT climbs to ILB. WB blocks OLB and FB gets CB. By the way you also have the pulling guard for any other clean-up that might be needed.
44 defense now OLB has to move out. If red then hit them with Midline/ if white hit them with Iso.

3. If you Go empty with trips and TE/WB to the other side. No more 2 deep. Then run check rocket off of safety rotation.

4. Twirl their butts. If they rotate based on wing motion then twirl it and run:
Iso Back
Counter Option back
Screen back
Good Luck
